Picking the best restaurants in Philadelphia sounds easy… until you’re actually standing there, hungry, scrolling through dozens of options and somehow getting more confused.
That kept happening to me—what should’ve been a quick dinner decision kept turning into 20 minutes of overthinking. After a few too many “that was fine, I guess” meals, I realized I needed a better system.
So I started paying attention to the spots that really impressed me, the ones that made me stop mid-bite or had me thinking about the food the next day.
This list comes from that process. If you’ve ever felt stuck trying to choose where to eat in Philly, this should make things a whole lot easier.
How much does it cost to dine at a restaurant in Philadelphia?
Dining at restaurants in Philadelphia typically costs $15–$50 per person, depending on the type of restaurant. Upscale dining, drinks, and extra courses can raise the total to $100 or more.
1. Jean-Georges Philadelphia

Address: Four Seasons Hotel, One N 19th St, 19103
Contact Details: +1 215-419-5057
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Sunday – 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Jean-Georges Philadelphia serves modern American cuisine, but with a global twist.
The chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, is famous for blending French techniques with unexpected flavors from Asia, so you’ll see ingredients like yuzu, chili, ginger, and soy pop up in surprisingly tasty combinations.
This results in a lot of unique dishes like Yellowfin Tuna Ribbons with avocado and spicy radish, and Black Truffle Pizza.
Perched on the 59th floor of the Four Seasons, the restaurant offers an incredible panoramic view of Philly, with the sunset especially magical. The dining room itself is modern and comfortable, striking the perfect balance between chic and inviting.
The staff really stood out, too. They’re super helpful—happy to explain the dishes without making you feel silly, and never hovering too much. I heard from others that the service is consistently friendly and patient.
That said, this is a “thick wad of cash” kind of place. Plus, the meal is served slowly (so maybe don’t come starving).
Staff was very kind and explained all the dishes and flavors to us in detail
“Went here for a birthday dinner. We got a table with a beautiful city view as we had requested. The food was excellently seasoned and cooked. We had the corn truffle agnolotti and the roast romanesco with white bean puree for appetizers. Each mouthful was a delight! We then went on to the roast duck and roast lamp chop for dinner and they were truly sensational. We had the litchi raspberry Bellini and the fennel margarita for drinks. Towards the end of the meal, the staff got us a cute complimentary raspberry chocolate mousse cake for the birthday. Staff was very kind and patient and explained all the dishes and flavors to us in detail. We had the last reservation for the day but we never felt rushed. All in all, would highly recommend.”

Great experience especially if you want a restaurant that has a beautiful ambiance
“Recently had a date night with my wife at this restaurant and it was an amazing experience. Top notch service as soon as we arrived at the entrance of the Four Seasons. I definitely recommend valet parking (around $45) as it is downtown and parking may be difficult to find. Someone walked us to the elevator and we enjoyed a view of the city on the way to the 60th floor! When the doors opened we were welcomed and enjoyed taking pictures with the beautiful holiday decorations. Had to wait about 20 minutes after our reservation time to be seated but was not disappointed because we had window seats and enjoyed a view of the city while dining. Sam attended to us and was excellent from start to finish! He gave great recommendations, was quick, efficient, and great personality! Food was very good but a bit pricy for the portion size. Overall great experience especially if you want a restaurant that has a beautiful ambiance.”

2. Morimoto

Address: 723 Chestnut St, 19106
Contact Details: +1 215-413-9070
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM
The first thing you notice about Morimoto is the design, crafted by Karim Rashid. The space is modern and vibrant, with green tables, tan leather seating, and a mural that feels both edgy and inviting.
On the menu, you’ll find many signature creations you won’t see elsewhere—Chef Morimoto pairs Japanese traditions with Western techniques, resulting in dishes that are both innovative and memorable.
I particularly loved the Wagyu Dumplings in Kanzuri-Miso broth and the theatrical presentations that come along for the ride, like dishes arriving with a puff of dry ice smoke.
Even the staff deserve a special mention—they’re attentive and proactive about dietary restrictions, and will gladly tailor dishes to accommodate allergies or preferences if you let them know in advance.
On the downside, some guests mention that certain dishes don’t always live up to the restaurant’s high reputation. For example, sushi portions can seem small given the price point.
The waiter was knowledgeable, food was delicious, and atmosphere was perfect
“Been here twice. Once for my birthday then on Valentine’s Day 2019. Omakse was perfect. Waiter was knowledgeable, food was delicious. Atmosphere perfect. Second time we ordered from the menu.”

Food came out super fast, and it was a great night
“Went with my 8 yr old daughter for a night out. Service was excellent, waiter was great. We had hot stone wagyu A5 – great, spicy tuna crispy rice – delicious, A+, hamachi ponzu – great, a spicy tuna roll (good), pork gyoza (good), then a few slices of salmon nigiri and fatty tuna sashimi. Also had a “this is pen” cocktail – pretty good. Food came out super fast and was what you would hope for in a Morimoto restaurant. Ambience is everything here. When my daughter spilled her soda, 3 staff came to help. When she dropped her napkin, someone noticed and got her a new one. It was a great night. Will go back.”

3. Zahav

Address: 237 St James Pl, 19106
Contact Details: +1 215-625-8800
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Monday – Closed
- Tuesday to Saturday – 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM
Zahav’s Chef Michael Solomonov is devoted to Israeli cuisine, drawing inspiration from across the Middle East. The menu really encourages you to explore, with a focus on small plates, grilled meats (“Al Ha’esh”), and flavors that are deeply rooted in tradition.
You have to start with the Laffa Bread—it’s soft, warm, and made for scooping up their super-smooth hummus. The slow-cooked lamb shoulder is just as memorable, tender, and full of flavor.
What elevates Zahav beyond its food is its thoughtful approach. Vegetables and grains
Get the same care as the meats, but the meats gain something extra—a smoky flavor from open-fire grilling that brings everything together.
Just note that the food is not meant for sharing, so the portions aren’t huge. If you’re really hungry or eating on your own, you might want to order a bit extra.
Everything about the meal and service was top-notch
“We had the tasting menu at Zahav and it was absolutely amazing from start to finish. The hummus was super fresh and easily one of the best I’ve ever had. The beet salad was incredible—bright, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. For the main course, the lamb shoulder was perfectly tender and rich, and we also received a complementary fluke dish that was a fantastic surprise. Dessert was a silky chocolate pudding that ended the meal on a perfect note. We sat at the bar and had a great experience—the bartender was engaging, knowledgeable, and really added to the evening. Overall, everything about the meal and service was top-notch. We’ll definitely be back!”

I enjoyed the laffa bread portion of the meal with all of the dipping arrangements
“The food was phenomenal, the service was great, the music was unexpectedly great what more can you ask for ? I especially enjoyed the laffa bread portion of the meal with all of the dipping arrangements, as far as dessert goes I eat dairy free so the sorbet was very delicious. I do wish my reservation was earlier in the day, because I missed out on the duck as there is a limited supply. Worth the trip 🤝🏾👍🏾”

4. The Dandelion

Address: 124 S 18th St, 19103
Contact Details: +1 215-558-2500
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Thursday – 11:30 AM to 11:00 PM
- Friday – 11:30 AM to 12:00 AM
- Saturday – 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM
- Sunday – 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM
If you want a change of pace from the usual Philly spots, The Dandelion is worth checking out. It’s this maze of little rooms with fireplaces, old books, and lots of quirky art.
The food here sticks to British comfort classics, but with some fun twists. The Fish and Chips and Shepherd’s Pie are always solid, but I was really surprised by their U.K. cheese board.
You get an array of British cheeses ranging from sharp, crumbly Cheddar to a creamy Stilton, plus tangy pickled onions, fig jam, and crisp crackers. And to go along with the charcuterie, I suggest you try their afternoon tea.
On weekends (and sometimes weekday afternoons), they bring out a fancy tray with tiny Sandwiches, warm Scones, cute Pastries, and your choice of brews.
It feels like a little getaway to England, right in Philly. My only issue is that the place can get a little loud or crowded during peak hours.
A delicious meal and a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays
“What a cozy restaurant! Had a holiday dinner with a large group (about 20 people) sat in a nice area with a mantle and lovely holiday decor. The service was stellar! Our server and all of the staff members were friendly and on point. A good selection of specialty cocktails and also draught beers and wine to choose from. The food was delicious! Deviled eggs and ricotta and toast as appetizers. For my entree, I had salmon which was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. We had honey glazed carrots and whipped potatoes as side dishes. Both were so tasty! The dessert tray of bite sized cakes was both cute and delicious. Chocolate, lemon, and toffee cakes were all good, though lemon was probably the crowd favorite. Overall, a delicious meal and a wonderful way to celebrate the holidays!”

The drinks were great, and the atmosphere felt lively and inviting
“I really enjoyed my visit here. The drinks were great, and the atmosphere felt lively and inviting. I ordered the triple cooked chips along with the steak and chips dinner, thinking it would be a straightforward choice, but it exceeded my expectations. The flavors were excellent, and everything was cooked perfectly. I would gladly order the same meal again.”

5. Butcher and Singer

Address: 1500 Walnut St, PA 19102
Contact Details: +1 215-732-4444
Operating Hours:
- Sunday to Thursday – 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- Friday to Saturday – 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM
Butcher and Singer lean into that 1940s Hollywood glamor in a way that really works. Imagine a place designed with dark wood, leather booths, soft lighting, and vintage touches—it feels a little cinematic, but still comfortable enough to settle in for the night.
But the real reason why people come here is the steaks. The cuts are perfectly charred, from classic filet mignon and New York strip to bigger options like the Delmonico and the 40-ounce porterhouse.
Personally, I think the steak was outstanding, super tender and full of flavor. But if heavy protein is not your thing, don’t worry—the menu has plenty of seafood.
The raw bar is particularly popular, with Oysters and Shrimp Cocktail, and dishes like their Twin Lobster Tails and Shrimp & Crab Louie are favorites for a reason.
Groups are well taken care of, too, with private dining rooms that are perfect for celebrations or business dinners. Just a heads-up, these need to be reserved in advance; walk-ins aren’t accepted for private spaces.
Classic atmosphere, beautiful space, and attentive service
“Philadelphia honestly doesn’t get enough credit for how incredible its food scene is, and Butcher & Singer completely proved that to me. From the moment we walked in, the whole experience felt special, classic atmosphere, beautiful space, attentive service without ever feeling overwhelming. I have to start with the biscuits because I’m still thinking about them. I used to live in Nashville, Tennessee, a city famous for amazing biscuits, and somehow these were the best biscuits I’ve ever had in my life. Perfectly warm, buttery, soft, and unforgettable. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The baked oysters were fantastic, the lobster tail was cooked perfectly, and the steak was exactly what you hope for when you go to a great steakhouse, rich, flavorful, and executed flawlessly. It was also my first time trying Baked Alaska, something I’d always been curious about, and it completely lived up to the anticipation. It was spectacular and instantly became one of my favorite desserts I’ve ever had. The entire evening felt elevated yet comfortable, the kind of restaurant that stays in your memory long after you leave. Butcher & Singer is easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Philadelphia, and I already can’t wait to come back.”

Thank you to my server, Ben, for making my day special
“To whom may this concern I had a wonderful time at butcher and singer. It was my 36th birthday. I had no one join me but they made me feel like I had someone had the butcher salad which was excellent. Porterhouse for one one. The only thing I have to say about that is it could have been seasoned a little better but other than that it was excellent. Mashed potatoes were on point. Super creamy, delicious their biscuits 10 out of 10 creme brulee was phenomenal as well. atmosphere was spectacular my server Ben top notch went above and beyond to make my birthday special, highly recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a good bite to eat in Philadelphia. I am from New York City so this was definitely a different experience. Thank you again to the staff at butcher and singer and once again thank you to my server Ben for making my day special”
