5 Great Spots for the Best Voice Lessons in Philadelphia

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Coach Qualifications: We looked closely at the training and backgrounds of the local instructors. It matters that your teacher understands vocal anatomy to keep your voice safe and strong.

Location Flexibility: We evaluated how easy it is to actually attend your scheduled sessions. Studios get extra points if they offer home visits or online options alongside physical spaces.

Style and Variety: We checked if the programs serve different types of goals and musical paths. A good studio should support everything from pop music to professional public speaking.

Value and Clarity: We analyzed the pricing structures and the studios' transparency about their fees. We prefer places that offer clear terms and good package options for students.

Finding the perfect spot and the right mentor to help improve your singing isn’t to be taken lightly. If you want to get ready for a big audition, a public speaking gig, or even just stop singing off-key in the shower, you need the best guide.

So, if you’d like to know where to find the best voice lessons in Philadelphia, I’ve got you! I spent time looking into the local music scene to find the top training spots to help you reach your goals.

Address: 914 Pine St Unit 1 F

Contact: 215-857-9354 | [email protected]

Hours: Teaching Hours: 3:00 – 9:00 PM Monday – Friday & 9:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday

Office Hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday

If you want a program that goes beyond a basic weekly time box, this studio is a great choice.

New Groove Music Studio combines private training with group classes to make music a natural part of your life. I love how they build customized lessons around your personal style to keep things fun.

They even let you choose your own learning setup. For instance, you can visit their physical spaces or have a coach come straight to your home. I talked to a friend who uses their home lessons, and she loves saving time on the commute.

Just keep in mind that you have to book a consultation call just to see the rates, which is a bit slow. Also, their physical hubs are mostly in Fishtown or Fairmount, so deep South Philly residents face a long drive.

Pros

  • Neighborhood rec center hubs
  • Convenient in-home lessons
  • Real community stage events
  • Distinct age-based tracks

Cons

  • Heavy concentration in specific neighborhoods
  • Required consultation call for pricing details

Wonderful voice teacher

Olivia was a wonderful voice teacher! She was passionate, enthusiastic, motivating, and introduced me to many new vocal techniques and breathing exercises. She’s made me a much more confident performer and showed me what my voice is capable of! I can’t wait to work with her again.

Truly a fantastic experience

We had the pleasure of working with Renee as my daughter’s voice teacher, and it was truly a fantastic experience! My daughter looked forward to her lessons with Renee every week, and I could see her confidence and vocal abilities grow with each session. Renee’s fun and engaging teaching style made learning a breeze, and we couldn’t be happier with the progress my daughter made under her guidance.

If you want science-backed training to keep your vocal cords perfectly healthy, look no further than this Gayborhood spot.

The Song Spot – Guitar, Voice Lessons, Recording – Philadelphia’s coaches have advanced degrees in vocal pedagogy, so they know how to prevent injuries. They offer wonderful gender-affirming voice training and support neurodiverse students, too.

They focus on pop and rock here, and coaches even travel to a live gig or recording studio to help students warm up.

But the studio policies are quite strict. You must give 48 hours’ notice to cancel a session. They also require a 30-day notice to end your subscription, and you must buy your own sheet music, so you’ll have to prepare well to enroll.

On the bright side, the downtown space is accessible since they’re near transit and have street parking.

Pros

  • Near downtown public transit
  • Gender-affirming training options
  • Instructors with pedagogy degrees
  • Off-site live gig support

Cons

  • Strict 48-hour cancellation policy
  • Required 30-day subscription termination notice
  • Extra out-of-pocket sheet music costs

I’ve definitely noticed improvement

Anne-Marie is super supportive and makes everything easy to understand while still challenging you to learn something new and be better every lesson. I’d never taken voice lessons before and I’ve definitely noticed improvement and feel more capable singing. Great positive experience! Highly recommend!

Amazing voice coach

Dana was an amazing voice coach! Our singing lessons helped me connect with my body and my voice in ways I couldn’t uderstand having talked with several other voice coaches over the years. Specifically, as a trans man who went from a Soprano 2 to a Bass 2, she helped me figure out the new placement of notes within my body as well as how to get my higher range to sound less forced. If you are looking for someone who can explain things through experiential exercises and the actual science of singing, she’s the coach for you!

Singers who want top-tier credentials will love working with an instructor who holds dual master’s degrees.

Sonia Aviva Voice offers specialized training focused on the physical health of your voice. She holds a Level III certification in Somatic Voicework, which blends deep science with vocal art.

I tried a single session here last month to fix my breath control, and her feedback completely transformed my approach.

Her custom sessions cover a mix of genres like jazz and pop. She’s also known for providing excellent singing lessons for transgender students seeking to safely expand their vocal range.

As you can expect, her premium expertise comes with a high price tag, so check her packages to see if you can get a bit of a discount. Just be aware that her packages expire after three months.

Also, note that single sessions can’t be rescheduled, and she generally doesn’t teach beginners under the age of 12.

Pros

  • High local customer ratings
  • Specialized transgender vocal care
  • Diverse music style coverage
  • Available monthly installment plans

Cons

  • No rescheduling for single sessions
  • Premium price point
  •
  • General age limit for young beginners

I looked forward to our lessons each week

I went to Sonia having no formal training in vocal work, believing myself to be tone deaf and doomed. She explains singing in such an approachable and encouraging way. She’s a very knowledgable musician and singer and really fun to work with. I looked forward to our lessons each week and am so much more confident and happy to sing now. Her studio space is also beautiful. I think everyone should learn to sing and if they have the option they should learn to sing from Sonia.

I’m incredibly happy with how my recordings turned out

I’m an independent musician (Little Cinema), and hired Sonia to help me perfect my vocals on all of the songs for my first album, and many for my second. We did a blend of in-person and virtual sessions.

Sonia is amazing. She’s got a great talent for exercising the vocal cords, and finding new ways to sing and phrase tired lines. She also did a great job at working to understand the feel of my music. I’m incredibly happy with how my recordings turned out, and Sonia was a huge aspect of that.

If you suffer from intense stage fright, this studio can help you.

Tim Welch Vocal Studio – Fishtown uses a unique system to break down vocal styles into simple muscle-memory exercises. With this approach, you can seamlessly transition between different singing styles.

They focus on mindfulness to help build real confidence on stage, too. They’ve worked with absolute beginners and touring professionals. Every coach at the studio completes the same strict training program, so you always get a consistent experience.

I also love that they even host singing parties where you can practice performing in front of a friendly, supportive crowd.

But you should be aware that they bill for the entire month upfront and require a credit card on file. You must also give a full 48-hour notice to cancel, and they won’t extend your time if you get stuck in traffic.

Pros

  • Convenient physical Fishtown studio
  • Consistent standardized teaching method
  • Clear paths for absolute beginners
  • Regular interactive singing parties

Cons

  • Full charge for late cancellations
  • Upfront monthly credit card billing

Truly a remarkable vocal teacher.

I have had the great pleasure of working with Safa. She is an exceptional teacher whose keen ear and perpetually on-the-nose identification of areas for work – and how to address those areas – has resulted in a step-change in my singing that wouldn’t have occurred otherwise. Truly a remarkable vocal teacher. I am exceedingly grateful!

I would highly recommend Julia and her team

Julia is absolutely amazing. I’ve accumulated years of bad habits when singing, and Julia has been helping me getting rid of them and learning how to use my voice properly. She makes even the vocal exercises super fun. I would highly highly recommend Julia and her team to any singers from any genre.

5. Philly Music Lessons

Website: https://phillymusiclessons.com/

Address: 2111 East Susquehanna Avenue

Contact: 215-645-0405 | [email protected]

Hours: Hours by appointment only

Philly Music Lessons connects you with active, working musicians who understand the local music scene. Finding a coach who fits your specific learning style is easy with this custom matchmaking service.

Even better, they offer a half-price trial lesson so you can test the waters before committing. You can even take lessons at their physical spaces or right in your own home.

From what I’ve seen, they focus on healthy vocal techniques across multiple genres, such as jazz and classical. They also care deeply about protecting young voices, which is why they only offer direct vocal training to kids aged 10 and up.

But you can’t just drop by to look around. Both locations operate strictly by appointment, so you have to schedule everything in advance.

Some parents might also dislike that younger kids must take a piano combo instead of pure vocal practice. If you want a break from music, they even know where to find great swimming lessons nearby.

Pros

  • Flexible home lesson options
  • Discounted half-price trial sessions
  • Active gigging professional instructors
  • Wide genre selection

Cons

  • Strictly by appointment only
  • Age limits for young children
  • No walk-in consultations allowed
  • Forced instrument combos for kids under 10

fantastic voice instructor

I have been greatly enjoying my singing lessons! We had to switch to online lessons, but it was an easy transition to make and it is working out better than expected. Melanie is a fantastic voice instructor and I feel like I’ve gotten a lot out of the experience.

Her teaching is phenomenal

I have been working with Cecila, on being a better and stronger singer. Her teaching is phenomenal and she gives great direction. So far within the first month we have worked on singing on key, voice projection, and range. The pricing is affordable. I reccomend the singing program to all.
