Hours: Monday through Wednesday 9 am to 5 pm, Thursday & Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm, Sunday 12 pm to 5 pm
Shopping for textiles feels like a true neighborhood tradition at this massive Germantown staple. Gaffney Fabrics offers a huge 10,000-square-foot retail floor packed with everyday utility fabrics and colorful African prints.
You can easily find everyday quilting cottons or fun sports prints celebrating local teams.
I bought twenty yards of cotton here last year for a production run and walked away with a fantastic bulk discount. They bring in fresh shipments daily and offer high-grade choices at rates below standard retail.
On the downside, the floor staff can occasionally seem a bit distant or slow to assist when the room gets busy.

Great store!
Such a great store! Staff are really helpful and I can always find what I need here from ribbons to bustle a wedding dress to batting to re-stuff couch cushions to fun fabric for a Halloween costume.

A great selection of apparel fabrics
My favorite locally-owned fabric store of all time! Gaffney’s has a great selection of apparel fabrics, trims, and notions. The staff is super friendly and knows the regular customers by name. Prices are super reasonable, and I love to check out the bargain basement too! Inventory turns over pretty regularly, so there is always something new and exciting up at the front. As a professional seamstress, I don’t know where I’d be without this store! Philly is SO lucky to have this business.

2. Jack B Fabrics

Website: https://www.jackbfabrics.com/
Address: 748 South 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
Contact: 215-925-2991
Hours: Monday through Saturday 10 am to 4:30 pm
Finding rare fashion materials becomes much easier when you visit South 4th Street. Jack B Fabrics brings over 35 years of local experience to the historic Fabric Row district. This multi-generational family storefront specializes in sourcing unique textiles directly from manufacturers and suppliers worldwide.
Their deep inventory spans across delicate bridal satins and heavy upholstery velvets for home furniture projects. Negotiating directly with factories helps them keep everyday retail prices low and highly competitive.
Plus, the team knows their stock inside and out to help you find hard-to-find materials.
But the physical layout of the store can feel incredibly tight and crowded. The narrow aisles make browsing difficult when weekend shoppers fill the room.

Found BEAUTIFUL fabric
After an upsetting experience at another fabric store I went to Jack B Fabrics. I was met with a friendly smile by a nice gentleman, who immediately asked what I needed help with. He was helpful and informative, and I found BEAUTIFUL fabric that I covered my kitchen chairs with, and they are stunning, if I must say so. Thank you and I will be back.

Great selection of fabrics
I come down to Philadelphia every few months for work and always try to squeeze a trip to fabric row into my trip, and Jack B. and Maxie’s Daughter are the two “must visits” of 4th st. Great selection of fabrics, including laces, cottons, denims, linen, wool, and upholstery. Wonderful, friendly staff, and nice prices. Love these guys!

Contact: 267-608-3094
Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 11 am to 6 pm, Friday 11 am to 7 pm, Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Sunday 12 pm to 5 pm (Closed daily from 2 pm to 3 pm for riposo)
Eco-conscious sewing enthusiasts can find a refreshing change of pace on South Fourth Street. Approved Textiles centers its entire mission on sustainability, slow fashion, and full supply chain transparency.
They carry a beautifully curated inventory of artisan-made, handwoven materials like organic cotton and linen textiles.
The shop supports global makers while providing beautiful natural fibers for local designers. You can also pick up sewing patterns, visible mending kits, and special dye-ready options. It’s a wonderful community hub for mindful crafting.
Just keep in mind that this boutique is highly specialized. Shoppers looking for cheap synthetic blends or massive commercial quantities of basic materials will find the catalog too limited.

Extremely beautiful and well-curated fabric store!
Extremely beautiful and well curated fabric store!!! I bought some gorgeous cotton and silk fabrics I am using for a pants sewing project. Definitely the spot for handmade, natural fiber fabrics that are actually ethically produced.

Sustainable and beautiful fabric
I was recently at Mood Fabrics in NYC looking for linen for a lightweight, wrap dress I’m make, but despite Mood’s extensive selection I did not find what I was looking for. I was really delighted to find lots of gorgeous linen yardage at Approved Textiles that absolutely fit my needs, and the shop’s pricing was very good for the type of fabric they offer. Very happy that I was able to find sustainable and beautiful fabric at this shop. Will definitely return!

4. Halal Textiles

Website: https://halaltextile.com/
Address: 5938 Lansdowne Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19151
Contact: 215-921-2530
Hours: Monday through Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm, Sunday, 12:30 pm to 5 pm
Designing modest garments requires specific materials that standard storefronts don’t always carry. Halal Textiles fills this gap beautifully by focusing on fabrics for abayas (loose-fitting robes), hijabs, and everyday dresses.
The business draws from a rich family legacy with over 30 years of experience serving local sewing communities.
They focus on highly practical, easy-care materials like polyester blends and wrinkle-resistant stretch knits. Most core fashion options cost around $5 to $8 per yard, keeping your tailoring budget completely under control.
The soft, beginner-friendly fabrics offer great drape and excellent durability.
However, some visitors report that the physical doors are occasionally closed during posted operating hours. This can cause real frustration if you travel far to browse their shelves.

Prices are super cheap
Would give 10/5 stars if i could. People working were very nice, we just got fabric for patchwork shirts but they gave us a whole bag of random scraps for free. We didn’t look like their usual clientele but they were definitely welcoming. Also prices are super cheap.

Great quality, friendly people
I had been looking for a white lace shayla to match my wedding gown.. I couldn’t find one. But I got a great idea to go to Halal Textiles and see if they had fabric that I could use to make my own shayla. I found a beautiful white lace there and the prices were very reasonable. I ended up buying more than one kind of fabric and my spouse bought a nice thobe from there also. Great quality, friendly people, awesome prices. We will be back, inshaa Allah.

Address: 801 South 4th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147
Contact: 215-627-1146
Home decorators needing durable materials for large furniture projects should head straight to this long-standing landmark. Operating on Fabric Row since 1954, B Wilk Fabrics stocks thousands of premium bolts meant for drapery and slipcovers. They carry major designer trade brands like Sunbrella and Ralph Lauren.
I used their free swatch service for a custom project and received matching samples in the mail immediately. The experienced team provides great design consultations to help you find perfect finishing touches like tassels and decorative trim.
On the downside, walk-in customers might find the floor staff a bit slow to approach them at first. You may need to ask for help directly since they’re often busy with professional interior designers.

The fabric arrived quickly
Amazing customer service! I had an idea of what I wanted in fabric to recover the chairs. Bill offered “Let me make some selections for you during the week and you can come back later to take a look.” “And maybe bring some samples of the joining room colors or fabrics.”
I did just that; returning for a second look with samples of our house. After final selection of fabric, it was ordered. The fabric arrived quickly and gave new life to the tired old chairs.
Definitely the store that supports your vision.

An amazing selection
Trash picks 2 beatiful all wood chairs. Bought my fabric(as always) from Wilks Fabrics on 4th st. Always an amazing selection of choices and Billy is very helpful. Been using them for 35 years. I intended on doing them myself, but saw some gorgeous upholstery work and got a price. Couldn’t pass it up. So here’s the before and after picture….. Upholstery by Perez &Son in Absecon and Pleasantville. I highly recommend, ask for Hugo.
