We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Curriculum Variety: We checked the breadth of styles offered to make sure beginners, hobbyists, and more serious dancers all had useful options. Studios with programs for different ages and skill levels felt more accessible overall.

Instructor Expertise: We looked closely at the teaching backgrounds behind each studio. Professional experience, academic training, and specialized certifications all helped us judge how well students would be guided.

Studio Atmosphere: A safe and encouraging room can make a huge difference when you are still learning. We prioritized studios that foster confidence and community rather than making students feel pressured or judged.

Flexibility and Accessibility: Busy schedules are real, so we checked class formats, entry rules, and commitment levels. Drop-in options, consultations, and clear policies made some studios easier to fit into everyday life.

Value for Money: We compared pricing structures with the quality of instruction and overall student experience. Studios that offered strong teaching, useful formats, or confidence-building extras ranked higher.

Finding your rhythm in the City of Brotherly Love is easier than you might think, especially when you’re looking for the best dance classes in Philadelphia.

If your kids need a fun way to burn off energy or maybe you want a movement-based routine for yourself, the city has plenty of welcoming studios to explore.

However, between shuttling kids to math tutors and figuring out general tutoring schedules, searching for your ideal dance class can be an added hassle.

Well, no worries! I reviewed Philadelphia studios that stood out for strong instruction, good energy, and classes that make stepping onto the floor feel less intimidating.

How much do dance classes cost in Philadelphia?

Dance classes in Philadelphia usually cost about $10 to $25 per group session, $40 to $160 per month for weekly classes, or $50 to $100 per hour for private lessons.

1. Society Hill Dance Academy

society-hill-dance-academy

Website: https://societyhilldance.com/

Address: 1919 E Passyunk Ave

Contact: (215) 574-3574

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM; Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Starting your ballroom journey can feel intimidating, but a complimentary first consultation takes a lot of the pressure off.

Society Hill Dance Academy offers that easy first step, so new students can test the waters of salsa, swing, or other partner styles before committing.

You also don’t need to bring a partner, which makes joining less awkward if you’re signing up solo.

When I booked a session here last month, I noticed how much the studio emphasizes social confidence through practice parties and a lively two-story space.

I also like how the instructors use a clear learning system that blends private technique lessons with group classes for muscle memory.

However, the main drawback here is availability. Peak evening private lessons can fill quickly, and popular instructors usually need to be booked well in advance.

Pros

  • Free initial dance consultation
  • No partner required for classes
  • Strong focus on social confidence

Cons

  • Peak times have limited availability
  • Popular instructors require early booking

So friendly and helpful

My husband and I took group dance classes with Millie when we were engaged to learn basic steps and get comfortable dancing formally together before our wedding, and we ended up choreographing our first dance! The class was a blast and Millie was so friendly and helpful, she made dancing so approachable.

We had fun during our lessons

My fiancé and I signed up for a 7 class dance package. We had a great time. Our instructor was Millie and she was wonderful. Millie taught us the steps we needed and choreographed our first dance. We had fun during our lessons and enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely recommend!

2. Estilo Dance Studio

Website: https://estilodancestudio.com/

Address: 2036 Frankford Ave

Contact: (267) 317-8849

Hours: Monday-Thursday, 12:00 PM – 9:30 PM; Friday & Sunday, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Mastering the intricate footwork of Mambo or Bachata is much easier when instruction is focused, as Estilo Dance Studio offers.

This studio dedicates its curriculum to Latin dance, so students receive specialized training rather than a scattered mix of unrelated genres.

I also like that they make room for absolute beginners while still offering performance-level instruction for people who want to go deeper.

As for the atmosphere, it feels lively and community-driven, with social dancing opportunities that help students use what they learn outside the classroom.

On the flip side, the narrow focus is also the tradeoff here. If your goal is ballet, jazz, or contemporary movement, Estilo isn’t the right fit.

Still, for salsa and other Latin styles, the studio feels focused, energetic, and easy to get excited about.

Pros

  • Specialized Latin dance instruction
  • Welcoming to absolute beginners
  • Performance-level teaching staff
  • Active social dancing community

Cons

  • No non-Latin styles offered
  • Specialized focus may not suit ballet or contemporary goals

Truly enjoy the art of dance

Dancing has completely transformed my life. Since I started, my passion has only grown, and I dream of becoming a professional teacher one day. If you’re looking for an incredible salsa experience, this studio is the place to be. The energy, the music, and the community make every class exciting.

Whole studio is so dope

My time at Estilo Dance Studio have been nothing less than amazing. I started taking one on one classes with Jessi. She is so sweet and understanding and patient. She makes the environment so safe and comfortable. Without realizing it, you truly enjoy the art of dance.

3. Evolve Dance

Website: https://evolvedancephilly.com/

Address: 1719 Chestnut Street, Suite 401

Contact: (302) 319-2572

Hours: Monday-Friday, 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM; Saturday-Sunday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Finding a studio that prioritizes joy and belonging over competition can completely change how dance feels.

Evolve Dance stands out for its inclusive environment, where seasoned movers and total beginners can feel comfortable trying hip-hop, jazz, or contemporary classes.

A friend of mine joined one of their four-week mini-series and loved how quickly her confidence grew without a long-term contract.

Their pay-as-you-take pricing model is helpful if you want to explore adult or youth programs at your own pace. I also like that students receive class video recordings, which makes practicing at home much easier.

Take note, however, that their five-minute late entry cutoff is firm. You need to be on time, especially for your first meeting, since the building entrance can be tricky to find.

Pros

  • Diverse adult class styles
  • Flexible pay-as-you-take pricing
  • Welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Provides class video recordings

Cons

  • Strict five-minute late entry cutoff
  • Difficult to locate building entrance

Loves to do all her dance moves

We love Evolve’s Mini Me’s class! All the teachers we’ve had are kind and wonderful with kids, and the classes are fun and dynamic. My timid 2.5-year-old has blossomed over the semester and loves to do all her dance moves around the house.

The perfect place for groups of friends

Absolutely had a BLAST in Hot Girl Jazz, a great way to jump back into dance after years away. Evolve is perfect for anyone from beginner to advanced, with a wide variety of different styles and class difficulties. The perfect place for groups of friends to dance together as well.

4. The Philadelphia Dance Academy

the-philadelphia-dance-academy

Website: https://philadelphiadanceacademy.com/

Address: 219 Cuthbert Street, 3rd Floor

Contact: (215) 922-2422

Hours: Monday, 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM; Tuesday & Thursday, 9:00 AM – 8:30 PM; Wednesday & Friday, 3:00 PM – 8:30 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM; Sunday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Pursuing a pre-professional dance path takes careful technical training, and The Philadelphia Dance Academy is built for that kind of student.

Its program incorporates the official American Ballet Theatre (ABT) National Training Curriculum, which gives young dancers a structured foundation.

The school also uses individualized placement, so students can learn at a pace that matches their current ability rather than being pushed into the wrong level.

I appreciate that students also have annual stage performance opportunities. That real-stage experience can be a big confidence boost for kids who want more than a weekly class.

You’ll need to commit when enrolling here, though. The academy doesn’t offer casual drop-in classes, and the focus leans heavily toward classical ballet. Families looking for a loose, recreational setup may want something less formal.

Pros

  • Professional-level technical training
  • Official ABT curriculum
  • Annual stage performance opportunities
  • Individualized skill-level placement

Cons

  • No drop-in classes available
  • Heavy focus on classical ballet

Very professional and productive

It’s awesome! They teach so well, piece by piece; if you don’t get something, the teachers take the time to help you understand. Their communication process with the parents is very professional and productive. My daughter loves to attend class.

Caring and skilled instruction

My daughter has been attending classes at the Phila Dance Academy for seven years and has flourished under their caring and skilled instruction. She loves her instructors and looks forward to every class and every performance.

5. Equilibrium Dance Academy, LLC

equilibrium-dance-academy-llc

Website: https://www.equilibriumdanceacademy.com/

Address: 1802 S. Broad St.

Contact: 215-334-5826

Hours: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 4:30 PM – 8:30 PM; Tuesday, 5:00 PM – 8:30 PM; Saturday, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Nurturing creative expression sometimes means stepping away from trophies and judging panels.

Equilibrium Dance Academy operates as a non-competitive school, which keeps the focus on personal growth and solid dance education.

This low-pressure approach makes them a strong option for children, teens, and adults who want to build skills without feeling compared to everyone else in the room.

The studio also has sprung Marley floors and daily cleaning protocols, which help with dancer safety and comfort. Here, students can explore styles like hip hop and jazz while building community in a supportive environment.

I wish they were more flexible, though. Tuition requires a 10-month commitment, and the studio has strict rules for missed sessions, so families need to be sure the schedule really works before enrolling.

Pros

  • Low-pressure, non-competitive learning
  • Small class sizes for attention
  • Highly qualified instructors
  • Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ)-friendly environment

Cons

  • Requires a ten-month tuition commitment
  • Strict rules regarding missed sessions

Very encouraging

I love this gem of a dance academy in South Philly. I take the adult tap class and the owner/teacher Angelica is awesome! She’s a really great rhythm tapper, very encouraging to the students and keeps us engaged. I’m glad I did and plan on being her student for years to come!

I am so glad we found this place!

My kids go there and really love it. It is different from other ballet schools. It is so organized and put together, amazingly well. My kiddos leave class happy and confident. The kids look forward to class each week and they absolutely love Miss Abby!
