Tucking into a box of sweets made right in Old City brings on some serious nostalgia, especially when you’re stepping into a spot that’s been part of the neighborhood for over fifty years.
The team at Lore’s Chocolates puts all their focus into small-batch, handmade treats that really do melt in your mouth.
They create more than a hundred different types of chocolates, from classic bites to clever Philly-themed shapes like detailed Liberty Bells. These really make awesome corporate or holiday gifts!
Several regulars said the chocolates here are always super fresh, and we couldn’t agree more. To add, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, making it a great place to stop by for a treat or a gift.
Just make sure to plan if you want to visit on the weekend, since the shop is closed on Sundays.
Their chocolates were the best we’d ever tasted
We discovered Lore’s delicious chocolates on our way to the Independence Library. Their shop is a block from the library and they were doing a free chocolate sampling. Their chocolates were the best we’d ever tasted! We bought both their butter creams and truffle assortments. We learned that Lore’s is a family-owned business that’s been in this location for over 50 years. They create these artisan chocolates onsite in a historic building and district. Their prices are very reasonable for the freshness and quality of the chocolates.

A must-visit for chocolate lovers
We discovered this shop on our way back to our hotel. It’s really worth a visit! Staff were so friendly and the choice of chocolates and sweets is amazing! We were given somr samples to try. We purchased a variety of lovely chocolates which were gone by the end of the day! A must visit for chocolate lovers!

Shane Confectionery makes their treats right on-site, using old-school candy-making methods and local ingredients to keep things authentic.
They put a lot of care into sourcing their cacao the right way. There are a lot of naturally vegan options if you need them, too.
When we stopped by last week, we tried their rich and velvety drinking chocolate at the little cafe inside, and the flavor was honestly amazing. It’s nothing like your usual hot chocolate drink from a simple coffee shop.
Just a heads-up: the cozy cafe sometimes closes up to forty-five minutes before the main store, especially when it’s really busy. So don’t show up too late if you want to grab a drink!
The handmade chocolates are out of this world
This place was AMAZING. It was like a Time Capsule from the 1800s. There was a beautiful antique cash register, lovely old architecture, and candy molds that were used when the shop first opened. And of course the hand made chocolates are out of this world. I loved the diverse selection they had, from familiar favorites to unique flavors like honey lavender. The hot chocolate was delicious too, very rich and chocolatey. One of the chefs was even nice enough to give us a behind the scenes tour! Definitely one of the best places we visited in Philly.

A stunning shop
Such a stunning shop with lots of candy and chocolates to offer. Picked up a few gifts and got one of their hot chocolates. The hot chocolate was excellent! Prices are a little high but that’s to be expected for handmade sweets in such a wonderful space.

Finding a vibrant stall inside the lively Reading Terminal Market always feels like a win, especially when it’s overflowing with classic sweets. Mueller Chocolate Co is just that!
This shop is run by a local family that makes nostalgic treats with just the right mix of rich cocoa flavor and crunch. They’re best known for their super smooth nonpareils and quirky chocolates, like their famous anatomically correct chocolate hearts.
You’ll find both milk and dark chocolate options for almost everything, which is great if you like to mix things up.
If you want to send a gift, they even ship nationwide, which makes it easy to share with friends and family.
The only catch is that they stick to market hours and close at six every evening, so you’ll want to plan your visit before then if you’re craving something sweet.

Amazing chocolate! pretty pricey but it’s quality chocolate so you should expect that! i personally love sea salt caramel so i recommend anything of that flavor, BUT please please PLEASE try their truffles. i don’t care what kind they are SO GOOD!!!! (atmosphere rated a 3 because it’s in reading terminal which is usually a nightmare) staff is super sweet and quick!

Chocolate malted balls are great
I was visiting Philadelphia. It was my first time at the Terminal. I bought Mueller’s milk chocolate malted balls and chocolate/peanut butter fudge. They are great!! When I return to Philadelphia I surely will be getting them and other chocolates.

However, you’ll need to plan if you want to try these beautiful treats, since they take long seasonal breaks and even shut down for several weeks during the summer. This means getting your hands on those chocolates can take a bit of patience.

We always love coming to Good Good Chocolates when we visit Philly. We found out about them through the Dandelion chocolate advent calendar (they were one of the artisanal chocolatiers that contributed and their chocolate bon bon was our favorite). We got an assortment of bon bons this time and the flavors were fantastic. I think the cherry raspberry and the coffee ones were our favorites. The chocolatiers talked with us about how they make their chocolate and it was such a nice experience. We highly recommend visiting!

Great variety of chocolates to choose from
So delicious! This shop is clean, very helpful staff, and has a great variety of chocolates to choose from. I wish I took a photo of their bonbons but my husband and I ate them in about 5 minutes flat, so I can confidently say they are worth the price! Beautiful designs that you can tell had a lot of love put in them. Great place for gifts!

This place makes amazing treats using classic copper kettle cooking methods. Their menu is packed with more than seventy-five years of dessert-making tradition, with everything from rich caramel apples to their popular Dubai Chocolate Collection.
Plus, they make it easy for everyone to enjoy by offering kosher-certified and sugar-free options.
While it’s a great spot to visit with friends, you might have to wait a bit during busy times since those old-school kettles can slow things down.

Not only the ice cream is very good, the location smells delicious, has plenty of adorable amazing chocolate and candy options. But the highlight for me was customer service. What a kind, patient, caring and polite staff. Huge thanks to the young man with angel-looking hair for going above and beyond to be sure we had a good time.

I am so happy to explore the one of the famous echo hílate shop in the town. Chocolate always gives me high energy and sweetness of heart.
