The 5 Best Garage Builders in Philadelphia for Practical Upgrades

We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Design & Customization: We looked closely at the availability of tailored layout solutions for different properties. Builders needed to offer flexible designs that suit specific homeowner needs.

Construction Expertise: The quality of workmanship and the materials used were major deciding factors. We prioritized companies with a proven track record of constructing durable and safe structures.

Project Timeline: Efficiency matters when a build can disrupt your driveway, yard, or daily routine. We checked whether these contractors could keep projects moving without cutting corners.

Pricing & Value: Transparency in quoting and overall cost competitiveness played a big role in our review. You deserve to know where your money goes without running into hidden fees halfway through the job.

Reputation & Customer Feedback: We looked for consistent positive feedback around construction quality and customer service. A steady local reputation made us more confident in recommending each builder.

Thinking about adding more usable space to your property can get exciting fast, but finding the best garage builder in Philadelphia can be tricky.

In particular, you need someone who understands local weather, permits, layout limits, and the difference between a quick storage build and a structure that actually fits your home.

So, I looked at companies that handle custom garages, metal buildings, and prefab options, offering practical service rather than flashy promises.

Read on for trusted builders that stood out for durable work, useful design choices, and clear tradeoffs.

How much do garage builders charge in Philadelphia?

A standard custom stick-built garage typically ranges from $15,000 to $45,000, while prefab metal kits start around $4,900 and can reach over $13,000 for larger enclosures.

Garage TypeEstimated Cost
Basic One-Car Stick-Built$18,000
Two-Car Stick-Built$30,000 – $39,000
Single-Car Prefab MetalStarts at $4,900
Large Enclosed Metal StructureUp to $13,000+

1. Philadelphia Metal Builders

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM; Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Protecting vehicles from Northeast weather is usually the whole point of building a garage here, so Philadelphia Metal Builders makes sense for homeowners who care most about durability.

The company focuses on metal garage buildings in the local Philadelphia area, giving it a clear niche rather than trying to be every type of contractor at once.

A neighbor I spoke with used them for a small workshop and liked how quickly the project moved. The appeal is pretty straightforward: metal structures hold up well against moisture, pests, and everyday wear.

Just don’t expect anything stylish here. If you want a garage that blends into a traditional brick home or a classic wood-framed addition, metal can feel limiting.

Still, for practical storage or a weather-resistant workspace, they’re a dependable option.

Pros

  • Focuses on durable metal building construction
  • Services the local Philadelphia community directly
  • Handles projects from start to finish
  • Uses weather-resistant materials

Cons

  • Limited exterior customization options
  • Hard to match traditional wood aesthetics

2. MCG Construction Inc

Adding a garage to an older Philadelphia property isn’t always a simple add-on. MCG Construction Inc. actually stands out for bringing structural repair, masonry, and whole-home remodeling experience into the garage conversation.

Under owner Mark Grimaldi, the company handles code-compliant attached and detached additions with engineering support. These factors matter when foundations, carports, and existing exterior damage are part of the job.

I also like that they can fold a garage project into broader updates, especially if your driveway, exterior walls, or surrounding masonry need attention as well.

The downside is focus because MCG isn’t strictly a garage-only specialist. Homeowners looking for a catalog-style prefab builder may find the process more construction-heavy.

Overall, they’re better suited to projects where the garage needs to tie into the rest of the property.

Pro tip: Managing the debris from a large build makes things a lot easier if you arrange a reliable dumpster rental in Philadelphia in advance.

Pros

  • Incorporates expert structural engineering services
  • Handles complete project management
  • Offers attached and detached options
  • Pairs builds with home remodeling services

Cons

  • Not strictly a dedicated garage specialist
  • Heavily focused on general structural repairs

Meticulous work

Mark, Geno and the crew were excellent! They fixed damage done to my property by contracting being done next door to my house, they re-did my driveway that was listing and fixed the entire carport/carport roof and front of garage that had major damage done to it by the construction being done next to my house. Meticulous work, reasonably priced. Very professional and kind. I would recommend them to do anything you need.

3. Sheds Unlimited

Address: 2025 Valley Rd, Morgantown

Contact: (717) 442-3281

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Visualizing a new garage is much easier when you can play with the layout before committing. Sheds Unlimited brings more than 35 years of experience to customizable prefab garages.

Their 3D design tool is one of the most useful parts of the process, and I loved how this makes the decision process faster. Their complete on-site assembly is also a plus if you want a smoother installation without coordinating every step yourself.

I stopped by their facility to see a few layouts in person, and the two-story garage and apartment-style models looked sturdier than I expected.

The catch is that complex two-story options are not for DIY buyers. Those models require professional modular delivery or crew assembly, limiting flexibility for hands-on homeowners. It helps keep the finished structure more consistent, though.

Pros

  • Features an interactive 3D design tool
  • Delivers unique architectural styles
  • Includes complete on-site assembly
  • Offers a five-year limited warranty

Cons

  •
  • Complex models unavailable for DIY assembly

Fabulous job

We had a garage done by Sheds Unlimited. It was an incredible experience. They were awesome to deal with from start to finish. In every aspect of the job. I was amazed that only three guys showed up to do this job and from start to finish took two days. Would absolutely tell everyone about them. Thanks again for the fabulous job.

Highly recommend

We are very happy with our Sheds Unlimited additional garage! I needed a place for my racing cars and other toys, and the garage below and man cave above is perfect for me. The management was very helpful in scheduling, and the crew was fun to watch and interact with. I could not believe they assembled everything in two days! Highly recommend them.

4. Custom Garage Company

Permits and zoning can drain the excitement out of a garage project, so Custom Garage Company’s full-service approach is a big plus.

For instance, they handle local zoning requirements, site preparation, and construction with dedicated in-house craftsmen, which keeps the process from feeling scattered.

Their builds lean toward premium, with details like Marvin windows and architectural styling rather than a basic storage-box look. I can see this working well for homeowners who want a detached garage that feels intentionally designed with the property.

The drawback is speed. A complete build usually takes 8 to 16 weeks, so this isn’t the right choice if you need a garage quickly.

Once construction wraps up, though, hiring one of the top maid agencies in Philadelphia to help clear dust from the surrounding spaces will speed up turnover.

Pros

  • Delivers a completely turnkey construction service
  • Employs dedicated in-house framing crews
  •
  • Uses premium brand-name materials

Cons

  •
  • Considerably slower than pre-built options

Amazing to work with

Custom Garage Co. was amazing to work with! They knew exactly what they were doing and exceeded my expectations. The project went quick and the contractors were all nice and experienced. Trent did an amazing job with our new detached garage and we will recommend him to everyone!

Incredibly knowledgeable

I’ve been working with Trent for years now. I recently saw him improve a property that increased the homes value 40% based on the one-month remodel work he did. He has an amazing work ethic and is incredibly knowledgeable about the greater Lancaster area. 50-stars all the way.

5. American Metal Buildings

Sometimes, a fast and resilient storage solution matters more than a highly customized exterior.

American Metal Buildings specializes in pre-engineered galvanized steel garages and offers both DIY kits and free professional installation options across Pennsylvania.

What I like most here is scale. Their catalog can stretch from a simple residential enclosure to a much larger commercial structure, and the online 3D estimator makes it easier to compare layouts before ordering.

Plus, the materials are also built to withstand harsh weather, with galvanized steel tubing for long-term stability.

The obvious tradeoff is appearance. Because the company focuses on metal and steel sheeting, it can’t offer the traditional wood-framed or brick-veneered look some Philadelphia homeowners want.

For practical storage, though, it’s a strong value-driven option.

Pros

  • Offers an interactive online 3D estimator
  • Engineers structures with galvanized steel
  • Ships DIY kits directly to sites
  • Includes free professional installation options

Cons

  • Cannot provide traditional wood-framed looks
  • Lacks brick-veneered siding options

A very hard working crew

Priced around and these guys were the best pricing. Their sales department answered all the questions and were quick to return emails. I’d say they bent over backwards to assure I was happy and well informed as to what was going on in the process of designing my garage. The installation crew was only four guys and they did a great job. Showed up at 9:30 and were finished by 6:30 after dark. A very hard working crew. Would I recommend this company? 100% yes.

Very helpful

Amanda was very helpful with getting the metal garage building I wanted. She mailed samples so I would have an opportunity to select the color I wanted. She was patient and worked with my friend and me for weeks to ensure I was getting exactly what I wanted. I can hardly wait to enjoy it!
