Finding a place to stash your extra stuff in the city can be a headache. Clearing out a spare room or storing dorm furniture both take a bit of planning, so tracking down the best self-storage in Philadelphia usually requires some legwork.
To make it easier, I went ahead and checked out the top spots around town, so you don’ have to spend hours comparing options. The goal is not just storage, but a simple, stress-free way to manage your space when things start to pile up.

1. SecureSpace Self Storage Philadelphia Grays Ferry

Address: 3114 Grays Ferry Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19146
Contact: (215) 461-3741
Hours: Manager Hours (Mon-Fri 9:30am-6pm, Sat 9am-5:30pm, Sun 10am-4pm) / Access Hours (Daily 6am-10pm)
SecureSpace Self Storage Philadelphia Grays Ferry is a really convenient option for students, especially with its proximity to the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn).
What stands out most is the flexibility. They offer month-to-month leases and a wide range of unit sizes, making it easy to scale up or down depending on how much you’re storing.
We also like how streamlined the move-in process feels. Online rentals and contactless access take a lot of friction out of what is usually a pretty stressful setup.
First-floor access is another practical advantage, and we can see how that would make hauling dorm furniture a lot less painful.
The facility itself also seems well-maintained, with clean interiors and climate-controlled units that help protect sensitive items like electronics from humidity or temperature swings. Security measures like bright lighting and controlled entry add extra peace of mind.
The main downside, though, is pricing after the initial promo period. Several users have noted noticeable rate increases once introductory discounts end.

Address: 40 Spring Garden St, Philadelphia, PA 19123
Contact: New Customer (888) 279-9005 / Current Customer (267) 930-6899
Hours: Rental & Support (Mon-Sun 6am-10pm) / Access (Mon-Sun 6am-10pm)
Extra Space Storage is a very practical option for city storage, especially because of its location near Spring Garden Street. It’s accessible from neighborhoods like Northern Liberties and Center City, which makes quick drop-offs or pickups a lot less of a hassle.
We also like that they offer climate-controlled units and strong security systems, which matters a lot in an urban environment where temperature swings and safety concerns can be unpredictable.
The physical setup also seems well thought out. They have covered loading docks, and large elevators make moving heavier items much easier than in older storage buildings.
Another plus is the variety of unit sizes, which gives flexibility whether you’re storing just a few boxes or an entire apartment’s worth of furniture. Their move-in promotions are also helpful for keeping upfront costs manageable.
The main drawback, though, seems to be on the administrative side. Some users have mentioned occasional frustration with corporate communication and paperwork.
Extra accommodating
This was my first time using self storage. Everything so far has been perfect, except the entry door was a bit hard to find the first time. Other than that it has been extremely convenient and fits my needs exactly. Romeo was extra accommodating, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone in search of self-storage!

Address: 4433 Wayne Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19144
Contact: (267) 214-7475
Hours: Office Hours (Mon-Sun 9am-5:30pm) / Access Hours (Mon-Sun 6am-10pm)
Bypassing the front desk entirely is a massive time-saver when you are in a rush. Store Space Self Storage absolutely nails this with their lightning-fast online rental process, letting you grab a month-to-month lease without any annoying security deposits.
They also offer everything from basic indoor lockers to secure underground vehicle parking. I personally rented a small unit here for a few months between apartments, and using their drive-in loading area saved me from dragging heavy bags through the rain.
The building features wide hallways and large elevators, which can make the entire move-in day surprisingly smooth for movers.
Finding an affordable starting price is also easy here, especially with their frequent discounts for longer stays.
That said, facility upkeep does slip from time to time. A few visitors have noticed certain hallways looking a bit messy or unkempt during busy weekends.
The place seemed secure when I got there

4. Safeguard Self Storage

Address: 6224 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19144
Contact: (267) 519-5710
Hours: Office Hours (Mon-Fri 9am-6pm, Sat 8:30am-5:30pm, Sun 10am-5pm) / Access Hours (Mon-Sun 6am-10pm)
Safeguard Self Storage feels especially geared toward business owners who need reliable storage for inventory and want strong security built into the facility.
Their focus on controlled access systems and continuous surveillance is one of their biggest strengths, since it adds a clear layer of protection for valuable or sensitive items.
We also like that they offer temperature-regulated units. This is important for preventing issues like humidity damage to documents, electronics, or other materials that don’t handle moisture well.
The layout also seems practical, with drive-in loading zones and design features that make moving items in and out more efficient.
Another advantage is flexibility for local businesses. Extended access hours and monthly leasing options make it easier to adapt storage to changing inventory needs, and having multiple locations across town adds convenience.
It’s just disappointing to hear some reports of less responsive staff and occasional maintenance concerns, including moisture issues in certain units.
The storage it self seems great.
The customer service was amazing! I am so sorry I cant recall the wonderful lady who helped me. She was pleasant, helpful, and informative. The storage it self seems great. Clean, secure, and well kept. Very pleased with my decision to store my belongings here

Hours: Office Hours (Mon-Fri 9:30am-6pm, Sat 8:30am-5pm, Sun 11am-3pm Virtual Agent) / Access Hours (Daily 6am-10pm)
CubeSmart Self Storage feels like a very low-pressure option for people in transition, especially because of the free online reservations and flexible month-to-month agreements. That upfront flexibility really helps reduce the stress of committing to a unit before you’re fully settled.
We also like how widely available their locations are across town. Having multiple nearby facilities makes it much easier to find something convenient, which matters a lot when you’re juggling a move or temporary storage needs.
The range of unit sizes is another strong point, from small boxes to RV-sized spaces. Plus, the climate-controlled units and 24-hour video monitoring add a reassuring layer of security for more valuable items.
Their move-in promotions are also a nice way to lower initial costs.
That said, there seems to be some inconsistency in customer service. Experiences can vary depending on who is working the front desk at the time.
A reliable and friendly place to store
I had a great experience with this self storage facility on Callowhill street. The property is clean, secure, and very well maintained. What really stood out to me was the staff, specifically the store manager Luis . He was incredibly helpful, professional, and patient in answering all of my questions.
