Find the Best HVAC Services in Philadelphia: 5 Trusted Local Experts

best-hvac-philadelphia
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Emergency Availability: Fast response times are crucial when extreme weather hits the city unexpectedly. I prioritized companies that offer reliable emergency support for urgent heating and cooling breakdowns.

Service Comprehensiveness: A great contractor should handle everything from routine residential tune-ups to complex commercial installations. I looked for providers capable of servicing multiple brands and mechanical system types.

Customer Transparency: Hidden fees and vague estimates make major home repairs more stressful than they need to be. I gave more weight to businesses with upfront pricing, clear diagnostics, and practical communication about labor costs.

Industry Experience: Long local experience can signal a stronger understanding of Philadelphia's older homes and mixed-use properties. I favored teams with certified technicians who know how to retrofit aging spaces without oversimplifying the work.

Warranties and Guarantees: Heating and cooling equipment is expensive, so post-installation protection matters. I checked for satisfaction guarantees, maintenance plans, and warranty support that can give owners more peace of mind.

Finding the best Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) in Philadelphia can feel urgent when a rowhome heater quits in January or an air conditioner gives out during a humid July week.

Keeping a property comfortable often goes hand in hand with other home projects, whether you need reliable dumpster rentals for renovation debris or termite control to protect older framing.

So, I looked for contractors that can handle repairs, replacements, and maintenance without making the process feel confusing. Below are the local teams that stood out for experience, responsiveness, and practical service!

How much does HVAC servicing cost in Philadelphia?

In Philadelphia, the cost for a standard HVAC service or tune-up generally ranges from $75 to $200.

For more extensive repairs, homeowners can expect to pay between $150 and $500 for the most common issues, while complex component failures can reach much higher.

While a full replacement in Philadelphia typically averages $7,695, regular maintenance is a much smaller investment designed to prevent that total system failure.

Service / System TypeEstimated Cost Range
Boiler Installation$9,800 – $26,000
Furnace Installation$7,200 – $16,000
Full HVAC System (2,000 square feet)$7,000 – $12,000
Mini-Split System (1,000 square feet)$5,000 – $10,000+
Coil Replacement Repair$800 – $2,000
Fan Motor Repair$300 – $700

1. HVAC Philly

hvac-philly

Website: https://hvacphillyinc.com/

Address: 1437 Lake Road, Feasterville

Contact: (215) 725-6111

Hours: Available 24/7

HVAC Philly is the kind of contractor I’d want on my list before the weather gets ugly. They’ve been around since 1994 and offer genuine 24/7 emergency support, which matters when a furnace gives out during a cold snap.

I hired them last winter when my heat pump failed, and the financing approval before the service visit took a lot of pressure off. Plus, their technicians work on all makes and models, so the visit felt practical instead of brand-specific.

However, while the actual repair work was solid, the front office can be inconsistent with callbacks. Some customers I spoke with even reported brusque phone interactions.

I’d still consider them a strong pick for urgent heating and cooling help, as long as you confirm timing clearly.

Pros

  • Round-the-clock emergency repair
  • Same-day service availability
  • Upfront financing approvals

Cons

  •
  • Limited short-term appointment slots

Extremely responsive, offered a reasonable price

I had a great experience with heating system installation using HVAC Philly. They were extremely responsive, offered a reasonable price, and provided high-quality work with excellent communication throughout the entire process. I really appreciated how they walked me through each step, answered all my questions, and made everything feel easy and stress free. Highly recommend!

Prompt and maintained clear line of communication

First time working with HVAC Philly, during this latest snow storm and cold snap, Viktor and Ahmed were prompt and maintained clear line of communication, diagnosed my issue in the morning and returned same day to replace the heating kit. They followed up the next day to make sure everything was working well. Will definitely use them again.

2. AirMaster Heating & Cooling Specialists

Website: https://airmasterpa.com/

Address: 5545 Baynton St

Contact: (267) 603-6353

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM – 7:00 PM; 24-hour emergency response

AirMaster Heating & Cooling Specialists makes the most sense if indoor air quality is as important to you as temperature control. Their filtration and humidity solutions are useful for families dealing with allergies or older homes that never seem to feel balanced.

They also cover water heater repairs, residential work, and more complex commercial installations.

I particularly like that they’re a family-owned, Carrier-authorized dealer with transparent pricing and maintenance plans. That setup feels especially helpful when you’re trying to extend the life of an existing system rather than rushing into a replacement.

The tradeoff is that the first visit can feel rushed if access details are not clear. Some technicians may also arrive much earlier than scheduled, so I’d make sure someone is ready before the appointment window starts.

Pros

  • Comprehensive indoor air quality services
  • Up to 10-year extended warranties
  • Flexible financing options

Cons

  • Rushed initial service assessments
  • Communication gaps regarding access

Honest and not just trying to upsell

Finding HVAC companies that are honest and not just trying to upsell has been a struggle. Stop searching. Air Master Inc is your new friend. Scheduling with ease, fast response times and friendly attention to your needs. Jared, my technician, is being rated highly for punctuality, professionalism, extensive knowledge and clear communication of my thorough system inspection. Went over and above checking thermostat, carbon monoxide unit and filter box for ease of replacement. A very positive experience all around.

For all my HVAC needs

I’ve used AirMaster for all my HVAC needs for a while now and have always had a good experience. Today I had an exceptionally good experience with Jared. He came out promptly despite us getting an historic amount of snow over the weekend and quickly diagnosed the issue we were having with our furnace. Jared clearly explained the problem, gave us a variety of options to address it, and quickly executed a solution. We are very grateful to have a working furnace on such a cold day all thanks to Jared!

3. W.F. Smith, Inc.

wf-smith-inc

Website: https://www.wfsmith.com/

Address: 7310 State Road

Contact: (267) 651-9426

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

W.F. Smith, Inc. is the old-school choice on this list, and I mean that in a good way. The company has operated in the area since 1946, bringing more than 75 years of heating and cooling experience to Philadelphia properties.

Their team is especially useful if you are considering advanced, energy-efficient options such as Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems.

I also appreciate the no-pressure, educational style they use during consultations, since system upgrades can get technical fast.

On the downside, their reputation keeps them busy, and that can stretch the office staff thin. Confirmed appointments may occasionally be rescheduled when technician availability shifts, so this is a better fit if you value expertise but can stay a little flexible.

Pros

  • Over 75 years of industry experience
  • No-pressure educational sales approach
  • Expertise in advanced efficient systems

Cons

  •
  • Limited emergency-style availability

Arrived on time and completed the work in just a few hours

Will and Bill from W.F. Smith did an outstanding job replacing my HVAC system. They arrived on time and completed the work in just a few hours with minimal disruption. They were very accommodating, positioning the humidifier controller near the thermostat as I requested. Their professionalism and expertise were evident throughout. The final installation looks fantastic, and they even custom-made parts to fit my small space. I highly recommend W.F. Smith and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Was able to correctly diagnose the problem

DAVE is AWESOME! Dave is the YODA of HVAC SYSTEMS. Dave took the time to listen to me and was able to correctly diagnose the problem that my heater was having. He endured cramped spaces and a lot of cat hair. He also saved me a lot of money! This man deserves a raise!

4. Northern Liberties Heating & Air Conditioning

Website: https://northernlibertieshvac.com/

Address: 101 W Montgomery Ave

Contact: (267) 587-7400

Hours: Available 24/7

Northern Liberties Heating & Air Conditioning is a practical option for older buildings that need more than a quick filter change.

They handle residential and commercial work, including ductwork, emergency repairs, and customized installations with a focus on long-term efficiency. Their transparent estimates and financing options can also make big renovations feel less intimidating.

I spoke with a local business owner who used them for a larger commercial upgrade, and what stood out was the crew’s knowledge of less common system brands.

That said, their peak season reliability is the weak spot. Communication can lag when demand spikes, and customers may run into last-minute schedule changes or slow post-installation follow-up.

I’d still shortlist them for complex work, but I’d document every appointment and next step.

Pros

  • Customized commercial installations
  • Expertise across multiple equipment brands
  • Transparent pricing and estimates

Cons

  • Inconsistent appointment reliability
  •
  • Last-minute schedule changes

Reliable techs

I scheduled my appointment with Northern Liberties Heating & Air Conditioning about two weeks in advance, and Nestor showed up right on time without needing any reminders, already a good sign. He did a thorough inspection of both of my gas-fired furnaces and made sure everything was ready for the winter season. He was honest, knowledgeable, and clearly knows his craft. Reliable techs are hard to come by, but Nestor is one of them. I’d highly recommend him, and I’ll definitely be using this company again for any future HVAC work.

Got my HVAC system working in no time

I called for emergency service on my gas furnace that wasn’t heating my home. Nestor came within 2 hours and got my HVAC system working in no time. He was very kind and answered all the HVAC questions I had. I highly recommend this company and can honestly say they will be the first ones I call next time my heating or cooling stops working!

5. NextGen Heating and Air Conditioning

nextgen-heating-and-air-conditioning

Website: https://www.nextgenhvac.co/

Address: 2435 S Bancroft St

Contact: (267) 347-2657

Hours: Monday-Sunday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM

NextGen Heating and Air Conditioning is a good fit if you want a local, family-owned contractor with clear licensing and insurance. That matters when someone is working inside your home, and you need straightforward accountability.

Notably, their factory-trained technicians handle routine air conditioner maintenance, urgent heater repairs, and full system replacements.

I also like that they offer free estimates for complete replacements, which helps when you are comparing a major upgrade against short-term repairs.

Do take note, however, that their repair quotes still require a standard diagnostic fee, so not every estimate is free. A few customers also describe phone interactions as abrupt or transactional.

Even so, their no-hidden-fees approach makes them easy to consider for South Philadelphia service.

Pros

  • Fully licensed and insured operations
  • Transparent pricing with no hidden fees
  • Local family-owned South Philly focus

Cons

  • Abrupt communication over the phone
  • Transactional customer service tone

Scheduled to come out the next day

Called NextGen on 1/28/26, Johnathan spoke with me about the issue with my heater and scheduled to come out the next day. John came within the timeframe given, diagnosed and fixed the issue which turned out to be a dirty flame rod. Very professional, nice and honest. I highly recommend using NexGen for your HVAC needs like I plan to in the future for maintenance and anything else if needed.

Will be calling them again with any future HVAC issues

Highly recommended. I was having issues with my furnace and radiator and gave NextGen a call. Jonathan was able to come out within a couple of hours and quickly get my heat up and running again. He walked me through and clearly explained the issues I was having after his diagnosis. Appreciated his expertise and will be calling them again with any future HVAC issues.
