If you want an authentic slice of local nightlife, Bob and Barbara’s Lounge has been serving up cold beer and lively entertainment since 1969.
This legendary spot is famous for “The Special,” their $5 combo of a shot of Jim Beam and a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon.
You can also catch the city’s longest-running drag show here every Thursday night with Miss Lisa Lisa!
When we dropped by, a long line had already formed for the iconic Friday night live jazz show, where the sounds of a real Hammond B-3 organ had the entire room dancing.
Just keep in mind that the staff might rush you out the door right at closing time.
Also, finding parking nearby can be a massive headache.

So much fun. A real good atmosphere and size. Seating at the bar or at tables. The times I’ve gone there’s been live music, which has been awesome. I also see a DJ Booth set up. Good drinks. Good vibes.

Tucked inside the elegant Rittenhouse luxury hotel, The Library Bar offers a cozy atmosphere with shelves lined with rare books.
The vibe is sophisticated and quiet, perfect for professionals wanting to unwind after work. It’s a great place to relax with an expertly made craft cocktail or a glass of fine wine, especially if you love live jazz on the weekends.
If you get hungry, you can order small, thoughtful plates straight to your seat.
Just know that you’ll need a little patience. According to some guests we spoke to, service at the high-tops can get pretty slow, and it’s not unusual to wait much longer than expected for a table without getting any updates from the host.

This is my one of favorite bar in Philadelphia, it has live music, nice cocktail. I like dark knight a lot, I was a little bit unsure about the color, and the glass they poured in, but it taste very sweet and easy to drink.

Hidden down a narrow, chain-linked alley, Graffiti Bar sits just behind the main Sampan restaurant.
The whole area is covered in a bold custom mural by local artist Ali M Williams, and it’s fully enclosed, climate-controlled, and comfortable all year.
It’s a super popular spot for weekday happy hour, too. Aside from the drinks, people really seem to like the modern Pan-Asian small plates from Chef Schulson’s kitchen.
The patio stays cozy as well, no matter the season. It’s a great place to relax, hang out with friends, and catch a game on the mounted TV year-round.
On top of that, they stay open an hour later than the main dining room, which many guests appreciate.
That said, a few guests we spoke with mentioned they noticed mistakes on their bills and had some trouble getting help from the staff to fix them.

Graffiti Bar is a great spot for happy hour with friends! The vibe is super cool and the space feels cozy yet lively. Their tequila and vodka fishbowls are a must-try — perfect for sharing with 2-3 friends to kick off the night. The Pan-Asian food is delicious, and everything pairs perfectly with their creative cocktails. Definitely a go-to spot for drinks, good food, and a chill atmosphere!

If you’re looking for really unique drinks with a Scandinavian vibe, you have to check out Andra Hem.
For one, their menu stands out for the complex cocktails, which use experimental ingredients like olive oil-washed vodka or even lamb-washed bourbon.
The atmosphere feels exclusive and special, too. The lounge has two different floors, each with its own cool look, so you get to pick your vibe.
A close colleague of ours recently attended an intimate gathering in their stunning second-floor event space. He couldn’t stop talking about the sophisticated plates, especially the sturgeon caviar paired with potato chips.
But it’s important to know that the service on the second floor can be slow. Our colleague said they waited about 20 minutes to get their check after finishing their drinks.

Very diverse selection of drinks
While making my reservation at a nearby restaurant, I stumbled upon this cocktail bar. We were seated efficiently and given time to look through the very diverse selection of drinks. Bok Bar makes it really easy to find an awesome rooftop view at this historic South Philly building. What started as a temporary pop-up is now a summer favorite, known for their super welcoming vibe.
There’s always something happening here, with a great mix of local food vendors and fun events like rooftop fitness classes. You can even bring your dog any time, or your kids, since they often have special family days.
Plus, you don’t need a reservation. You only need to walk in and grab a table whenever you like.
Just keep in mind that if you’re into fancy, made-to-order drinks, this might not be your spot, since most cocktails are pre-mixed.
Also, they’re a bit farther south compared to other downtown options.
The roof bar is simply incredible
We visited for Halloween and were able to catch the tail end of this bar being open for the season. The building itself is very old and I’m very thankful it has been saved and converted into multi use. The roof bar is simply incredible and offers stunning views of the city and surrounding area.

The food and drinks were excellent
Had a fantastic time at Bok Bar! The food and drinks were excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect for relaxing and enjoying great conversation. I brought my cockapoo and my friends brought their corgi, and the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive to both dogs the entire time, which made the experience even more special. It’s such a welcoming spot for both people and pups. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends, great vibes, and amazing service!
