Top 5 Photographers in Philadelphia Who Keep It Real and Stunning

photographers-philadelphia
We extensively test and research all services we review. Here's why you can trust us.

Style Consistency: I requested full galleries and compared at least three complete jobs per photographer. I even looked for color consistency across venues.

Planning and Backup Readiness: I asked for sample timelines, rain plans, and second-shooter policies. I also confirmed gear redundancy and inquired about their file backup process.

Deliverables and turnaround: I requested rate cards and contracts, then highlighted what you actually receive, including edit counts and delivery windows.

Pricing Transparency: I collected itemized estimates from multiple studios and compared average rates.

People Skills: I watched behind-the-scenes clips and requested one client gallery and one toddler session to observe patience in action.

When I was tasked with finding photographers in Philadelphia for a business project, I quickly realized how overwhelming it could be. Every portfolio looked impressive, and I found myself truly fitting the vision I had in mind.

After a few months comparing, it clicked… I didn’t need a photographer who checked every box. I needed someone who understood the story I wanted to tell.

This list is the result of that search… a curated selection of Philadelphia photographers who not only excel behind the lens but also make the process effortless and creative.

How much do photographers charge in Philadelphia?

Photographers in Philadelphia typically charge between $200 and $500 for a basic portrait session. However, rates vary depending on the photographer’s experience, deliverables, and extras such as makeup or second shooters.

D’Mont Reese Photography & Video is my “one call covers it” pick. D’Mont Reese, the person behind it, caters to events and commercial work.

He also provides an in-house video and photo booth. If you want one crew for the whole day, this makes life easy.

D’Mont and his team have been at it since 1991. They have already covered thousands of gigs. In fact, believe it or not, this includes President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, Pope John Paul II (yes, big, moving parts don’t scare them!).

There’s a big natural-light studio for controlled shoots, and they’ll roll out on location when you need it. Bonus part? They have ample parking space, so you’re not circling before your session.

Their packages scale from quick sessions to full productions, offering clear deliverables. However, note that pricing may vary. Be sure to request an itemized estimate.

Pros

  • Offers true one-call coverage service
  • Over 30 years of experience
  • Handled high-profile events
  • Ample parking space

Cons

  • Pricing varies by project

Very professional and arrives before the time

“I cannot be more satisfied with the work that D’Mont did with my daughter’s graduation photo shoot and commitment photos! We use D’Mont all the time for any and all of our professional photo needs. He is very professional and arrives before time to make sure that everything is just right for your event. Last summer, he photographed my daughter’s sweet 16 Luau and we are still talking about the photos that were taken. On another note, when both my husband turned 60 and I turned 50, D’mont was also there to take care of all of our events photography needs. Prompt, efficient and great service not to mention the final product is ALWAYS a treat!”

The studio was spacious

“I needed some new headshots. A quick google search connected me to this studio in Manyunk, a quick 8 minute drive away. I found the studio to be spacious and comfortable and with decor appropriate for a photography studio. D’Mont’s style was laid back with an eye for detail that made me feel confident in my poses and excited to see what the photos would look like. I found the prices to be extremely reasonable. I wasn’t keeping track of the time but I certainly did not feel rushed at all. And he delivered the photos when he promised and offered 2 free retouches. I would use him again and would recommend his to others as well. I’m please with the photographs and the serve the purpose very well.”

If you need professional images, Christopher Descano Photography is an easy choice for headshots and polished commercial looks. The style is clean and flattering, making it ideal for LinkedIn, websites, and press kits.

I particularly like that the pricing is truly straightforward. The $299 Headshot Package covers a one-hour session with unlimited photos. Additionally, you’ll receive three outfits, each with one retouch, and a download of all the images.

In NYC and Philly, Christopher usually leads the shoot himself. But I like that he also brings an assistant when the job needs it (he’s always ready!)

For larger or multi-city projects, Christopher and his team step in, providing extra hands exactly when it counts—just as they did during a friend’s experience in Miami.

However, the team is on the move frequently, and they book up quickly. If this fits your timeline, grab a date early and save yourself early.

Pros

  • Focuses on professional images
  • Straightforward pricing
  • Offers flexible setups
  • Has team support for bigger jobs

Cons

  • Slots book up quickly

The most amazing professional by far

“THE most amazing professional by far. Chris is a man of few words, but he doesn’t really have to say anything because he is a true master at his craft. I am super uncomfortable in front of cameras and he has the ability to guide me seamlessly and truly make me come out looking like a natural. I am so grateful for his patience, empathy and amazing professionalism. Highly recommended 🌺”

Easy process, high-quality photos

“Working with Christopher Descano Photography was an absolute pleasure. Professional, skilled, and easy to work with, Christopher made the entire process smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The shoot was well-organized, and the results truly exceeded expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking for high-quality photography and a top-tier experience!”

James Kern Photography shines with portraits that truly stand out—sleek headshots, campaign-ready portraits, and magazine-style sets. This service is ideal for team pages and launches that require a polished look quickly.

Sessions start at $300. It already includes professional hair and makeup, three outfits, and retouching.

However, their premium collections begin at $900. While it already includes a folio box of 10 images and an 8×12 metal print, I find it a stretch for those on a budget. But if you like a metal print that feels gallery-ready, the value is worth it.

On the plus side, you receive a complimentary consultation and a seamless transition from styling to guided posing.

Another factor I appreciate is that the studio’s vibe is supportive. It focuses on confidence-first, which suits boudoir and personal branding.

Pros

  • Working portraits
  • Solid entry package
  • Provides folio boxes and metal prints

Cons

  • High pricing for premium collections

Very comfortable and guided

“AMAZING photographer!!! Could not recommend enough. This was my first headshot photoshoot and James was so helpful! I felt very comfortable, guided, and had a great time! Great pricing and hair / makeup was amazing. The pictures turned out to be everything I could ask for and the space was new, fresh, clean, and beautiful to be in! If I could give 6 stars I would!”

They did a terrific job making me feel at ease

“James was awesome – I had such a great experience getting my headshots done with him. He did a terrific job making me feel at ease, comfortable, and confident while being photographed, and gave me a lot of direction. Highly recommend him for your photography needs if you’re in Philadelphia!”

I like Aliza Schlabach’s boudoir focus. She truly captures that dark and moody feel done right. You can actually think of it as “moody white,” hand-painted backdrops, and styled sets that you can mix and match (yes, that’s her approach).

Aside from that, I appreciate that packages are clear. The Petite Package starts at $800, which includes two sets, two outfits, and five edited digitals. Meanwhile, the Luxe Package begins at $1,600 for 2-4 hours, with a same-day reveal.

I love that instant pick-your-favorites moment. And if you’re going big, Luxe can span nine to eleven looks. One client mentioned that the sessions felt well worth the investment.

You can also get closet access, plus an optional professional glam team if you want the full glow. The add-on menu is also transparent, which I truly appreciate.

However, sessions are scheduled on weekdays and typically booked 2-4 months in advance.

Pros

  • Signature dark-and-moody style
  • Tiered packages
  • Same-day image reveal
  • Client closet access
  • Optional professional glam team

Cons

  • Weekday-only sessions

I had the best experience

“I had the absolute best experience during my photo session with Aliza! From the moment we started, she made me feel incredibly comfortable and at ease. Her warm personality and gentle guidance helped me relax and truly enjoy the process. Aliza has such a talent for capturing natural, beautiful moments—and I couldn’t be happier with how the photos turned out. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer who brings out the best in you!”

Absolutely phenomenal experience

“Absolutely phenomenal experience! Was a bit nervous going in but Aliza was great at reassuring me and going through the different choices! There were so many outfits to pick from. Makeup and hair was all set up when I arrived which made everything so easy. Had an absolute blast during the shoot and the pictures turned out amazing!! Would absolutely do it again”

Sam Reed Photo is a go-to for capturing real and messy moments, as well as brand photos with personality.

Lifestyle portraits come first here, including families, maternity, and newborns. That’s why branding and headshots feel like you, and not just a template.

Based in Fishtown with studio access through Sapphire Studio, Sam shoots solo in-studio or on location. I appreciate that it’s a woman-owned and LGBTQIA+ owned business. It genuinely sets a warm and welcoming tone.

Events and couples get a candid, documentary touch. The photos look lived-in, not stiff. Not to mention that the turnaround is quick and communication is clear, so planning stays truly easy.

However, popular dates sell out quickly, but there’s a helpful workaround. During busy weeks, she opens extra Friday slots. So, book early if you’re eyeing golden hour.

Pros

  • Candid lifestyle portraits
  • Brand-ready headshots
  • Has a Fishtown base with studio access
  • Woman-owned
  • Quick turnaround
  • Extra Friday slots in busy weeks

Cons

  • Popular dates book fast

Was super helpful and directive during our maternity shoot

“Sam is amazing! Was super helpful and directive during our maternity shoot. I was not feeling the most confident in my new body and she was so encouraging during the whole shoot. We are so happy with how these came out!”

Working with Sam was a delightful experience

“Working with Sam was a delightful experience! From start to finish she was an awesome collaborator and personal cheerleader. She gave me great styling tips, helped me feel comfortable and relaxed during the photo shoot, and edited the pictures to my satisfaction afterwards. Being photographed can be an anxiety-inducing experience, but Sam captured me in my best light and I’m super happy with the final result. :-)”
